What are the responsibilities and job description for the Freight Conductor position at Reading and Northern Railroad?
Freight Conductor Reports to: Vice President of Transportation & Safety
Job Overview: A Conductor will work with other members of the Operations department to service customers across the Reading and Northern system. A conductor will be part of a two-man train crew and will assemble and disassemble trains, make strategic moves with rail cars and interact with customers based on their needs.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Work with an Engineer to perform assigned daily tasks.
· Report to various locations on Railroad for work each day.
· Communicate with Customer Service department to understand customer needs.
· Throwing switches.
· Follow appropriate FRA and RBMN safety guidelines.
· Other duties as assigned and required.
Qualifications
· Ability to work around loud machines and equipment.
· Ability to work alone or in mixed groups.
· Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions.
· Flexibility to work varying shifts and report out of any location across our system.
· Must be able to lift up to 70lbs.
· Ability to bend, stand, climb, kneel or sit for long periods.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· Finger dexterity, operation of motor vehicle, operation of equipment, manage multiple tasks/projects, close attention to detail and adapt to ever changing work environment.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Operational vehicle to commute to/from work.
· Positive attitude.
· Exposure to chemicals, noise, dust and heights.
· Ability to successfully pass Federal Railroad Administration-mandated, pre-employment and random drug screens, physical examination, vision, hearing, and breath alcohol tests, as well as a background check.
· No work experience necessary- new technical/vocational school grads welcome to apply.

Pay: $22.52 - $26.00 per hour
