POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, variance analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, research and collect data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, labor and overhead. Knowledge of absorption/earned standard costing principles and its associated components.
- Analyze data collected and record results.
- Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost.
- Analyze actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Record cost information for use in controlling expenditures.
- Analyze audits of costs and prepare reports.
- Provide estimates of new and proposed product costs.
- Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.
- Maintain Cost Accounting System.
- Must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.
- Assist in month end close of the General Ledger.
- Conduct physical inventories and monitor cycle count program.
- Reconcile raw material, work in process and finished goods inventories.
- Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
- Investigate cycle counting, material usage, purchase price, labor and overhead variances and resolve issues.
- Update standard costs in the bill of materials and bill of operations.
- Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies.
- Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close.
- Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles.
- Work with the materials review board to locate and dispose of obsolete inventory.
- Conduct ongoing process constraint analyses.
- Report on breakeven points by products, work centers, and factories.
- Report on margins by product and division.
- Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on efficiency and spending variances.
- Analyze capital budgeting requests.
- Perform cost accumulation tasks as a member of the target costing group.
- Multi-task; adherence to deadlines.
- Communicate information or changes within the organization to employees.
- Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow.
- Issue written and oral instructions.
- Examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
Qualifications
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed on the job analysis are representative of the skill, and/or ability required.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Experience: Minimum five years of related experience. Well rounded in general ledger accounting, financial reporting and U.S. GAAP.
Specific Skills: English proficiency, but bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Manufacturing experience preferred with experience in current enterprise resource planning systems. Epicor software knowledge in financial and operations modules a plus. Effective oral and written communication skills required; intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, and Word.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.: Advanced Degree or CPA preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to use general office equipment (i.e. facsimile, photocopy, and/or related office peripherals). English/Spanish proficiency is helpful.
Physical Demands: Frequently sits, bends, kneels, reach out with hands/arms. Must be able to lift/move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
