Under limited supervision, performs Urine Drug Screens / Breathalyzer tests / Blood-Alcohol tests for the clients of Recovery Place-Liberty County Treatment Programs. The UDS Technician is responsible for observing, documenting, and reporting behaviors and drug screen results on a daily basis to the appropriate supervisor of each program. The UDS Technician is also responsible for performing drug screening duties for all prospective new hires, as well as performing random screening of all Recovery Place and Recovery Place Community Services employees when necessary. The ability to pass a background check is required along with the ability to maintain strong, ethical boundaries with the staff and clients. This position spends 50% of time in Recovery Place (Accountability Court) and 50% in RPCS (RPCS and Outpatient Services).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Client Monitoring

1. Provides drug screening/alcohol screening to the clients, staff members, and prospective new hires of Recovery Place and Recovery Place Community Services. The UDS technician will understand the types of drugs that are tested will be responsible for sending urine samples to the company-authorized laboratory and reporting to other staff.

2. Reports disruptive and/or inappropriate behavior to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner and in written form on progress notes, incident reports, etc.

Observation documentation and other administrative functions

1. Report all results daily to the supervisors of each program. Responsible for making copies of all positive screens and documenting results on each copy.

2. Responsible for documenting all results in Connexis for Accountability Court clients.

3. Maintaining a complete and accurate inventory of all UDS supplies to ensure that all testing materials are adequately stocked.

General Duties

1. Coordinates with supervisors to manage the daily posting of the UDS calendar for clients screening.

2. At the end of shift forward all test results to the Program Director, Physician, Addiction Counselors, and Administrative staff, Social Workers and/or Executive Clinical Director with regard to client care.

It is important that all staff maintains and models behaviors consistent with the mission of the organization. As such, a positive and professional attitude toward all clients is crucial. Staff will respect all clients, clinical staff members, the Director, and other professionals or visitors to the site. Name-calling, slurs, punitive measures, shaming, etc. are not consistent with the mission of this community and will not be tolerated. UDS technicians, like all other staff, are expected to attend in-service trainings and be able to document 30 hours of such per year. Professional boundaries with clients will be strictly adhered to. At NO time is it appropriate for a UDS technician to engage clients in conversation about personal or professional problems. An assertive, professional demeanor is expected at all times. The UDS technician will be held accountable for the accurate completion of all assignments and documentation in a timely manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma, G.E.D., and / or 2 years of experience in a similar position.

Completion of required paraprofessional E-Learning training within initial 90 days of employment

Current CPR certification

Ability to analyze and solve problems.

Aptitude at maintaining confidentiality.

Effective verbal communication skills.
