Recovery Resources, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to mental and behavioral health services, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Crisis Intervention Specialist to join our innovative crisis response team. This is a community-based role focused on responding to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis—providing de-escalation, stabilization, and linkage to needed services.
About the Role:
Developed in partnership with the Shaker Heights Police and Fire Departments, the Crisis Intervention Specialist plays a vital part in responding to mental health emergencies alongside—but independent of—first responders. The primary goal of this program is to minimize immediate risk, prevent harm, and reduce unnecessary use of emergency departments, police interventions, or inpatient hospitalizations.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and peer support specialists, using a city-owned vehicle to provide immediate on-site care, follow-ups, and wellness checks throughout the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide rapid, in-person crisis intervention and clinical support in coordination with first responders
- Utilize trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches to de-escalate crises and support individuals in distress
- Follow up with clients post-crisis to ensure stability and service connection
- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies for care coordination
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

- Master’s degree in Social Work, Clinical Counseling, or related human services field
- Minimum of one (1) year of relevant clinical experience
- Current LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) or LSW (Licensed Social Worker) in the state of Ohio
- Strong clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to community-based, person-centered care and Recovery Resources’ mission
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in crisis response, mobile crisis teams, or co-responder programs
- Knowledge of local mental health resources and systems of care
- Ability to work independently in dynamic environments
