Position Summary
The Truck driver operates a tractor-trailer having a set or several sets of wheels at the rear only, with the forward portion being supported by the truck tractor or towing vehicle. In addition, operation of a straight truck, over 4 tons, usually 10 wheels, is required. Tasks require a CDL.
Essential Functions of the Position
· Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
· Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods
· Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure
· Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations
· Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers
· Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned
· Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
· Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
· Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy
· Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes
· Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes in compliance with state regulations
· Load or unload trucks or help others with loading or unloading, using special loading-related equipment or other equipment as necessary
· Performs other relevant duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands
· Visually seeing equipment operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses).
· Standing, stooping kneeling, squatting, climbing or sitting for long periods of time.
· Repetitive movements of feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
· Working at elevated heights.
Work Environment
- Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to external environmental conditions possible.
- Noise level can range from minimal to intense.
Minimum Qualifications
· Tasks require a CDL with Hazmat endorsement.
· Must have the skill and knowledge to operate the various kinds of vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades.
· Knowledgeable about which routes may be legally driven and the overpass clearance and other restrictions on such routes.
· Read and interpret equipment operator’s manuals.
· Operate heavy equipment and/or drive trucks.
· A minimum of three (3) years similar experience.
· Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English.
· Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
· Must be able to multi-task and complete assignments accurately and on time.

· Must be a US Citizen.
· Must be able to pass a National Criminal Background Check.
