Job Title: Gift Shop Manager
Location: The National Shrine of St. John Neumann
Reports to: Shrine Director
Travel Required: None
Hours: Hours of Operation: Sunday-Saturday 10:00 am-3:00 pm
35 hours a week, schedule adaptable
Job Summary
The Gift Shop Manager is responsible for the overall store management. The candidate is expected to enhance our pilgrim's satisfaction, meet sales and inventory flow goals, and manage staff effectively. Responsibilities include supervising gift shop staff and overseeing the gift shop's daily operations, ensuring it runs smoothly and effectively. Their duties include motivating sales teams to give excellent service to our pilgrims and developing business strategies to help them succeed in this service to our ministry.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain our Gift Shop seven days a week, Sunday-Saturday from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
- Manage complete gift shop administration and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
- Maintain outstanding gift shop conditions and visual merchandising standards
- Open and close the Gift Shop, Museum, Café, and Media room each day
- Schedule appropriate coverage for the gift shop (Paid and Volunteer)
- Identify and respond to POS problems
- Maintain inventory using our POS system
- Maintain daily financial reports
- Oversee the buying, inventory, etc., of the gift shop in collaboration with the Shrine Director
- Report on buying trends, customer needs, budget, etc., to the Shrine Director
- Develop store strategies to raise awareness of our Gift Shop, expand pilgrim traffic, and optimize its value for the Shrine Ministry.
- Meet internal goals by training, motivating, mentoring, and providing feedback to gift shop staff
- Ensure high levels of our pilgrim’s satisfaction through excellent service
- Propose innovative ideas to increase the added value of the Gift Shop for our Ministry
- Deal with all issues that arise from staff or pilgrims (complaints, grievances, etc.)
- Be a shining example of well behavior and high performance
- Additional gift shop manager duties as needed
Minimum Abilities Required:
- Proven successful experience as a retail Store Manager
- Knowledge of local business regulations
- Be dependable and punctual
- Maintain confidentiality and trust in all situations; take directives from Shrine Director
- Powerful leading skills and business orientation
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Customer management skills
- Work collaboratively and effectively with all staff members; build appropriate rapport and enhance organizational effectiveness
- Display a helpful, cheerful, diplomatic, and caring servant attitude to all - communicate with a sense of warmth, openness, and approachability
- Work under pressure, remain flexible and adaptable, proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with an elevated level of professionalism
- BS degree in Business Administration or relevant field preferred
Desired Gift Shop Experience:
- The Gift Shop is a ministry of the Shrine. We are not just about selling; we want our pilgrims to have a moving experience by visiting our Gift Shop, which is well designed, with background-chant music, and maintains a welcoming attitude. Even if they did not purchase anything, they left with a memorable experience.
