CLASS TITLE: CHILD NUTRITION SERVICES LEAD
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, cook and bake a variety of foods in large quantities at an assigned school site; coordinate catering services as assigned; prepare and serve hot and cold menu items to students and staff; maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition; provide direction to other staff members to maintain work flow; productivity at assigned work site.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Incumbents in the Child Nutrition Services Assistant III classification serve as a second-in-command of a middle school or high school kitchen, coordinate catering services, and cook and bake food items from scratch. Child Nutrition Services Assistant II incumbents perform more responsible preparation and service activities at middle school or high school kitchens and may be responsible for the efficient operation of an elementary food service site. The Child Nutrition Services Assistant I classification performs entry-level food preparation and service to students at assigned school sites.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Cook and bake a variety of foods in large quantities including main dishes, breads and desserts at an assigned school site; prepare items from scratch from District approved recipes; mix, slice, grate and chop food items; open cans; replenish containers as necessary.
Determine appropriate quantity of food items for cooking and baking; measure and weigh ingredients; calculate, adjust and extend recipes; maintain food quality standards including appearance and nutritional requirements.
Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold menu items; observe quality and quantity of food served according to established procedures; assure proper temperature of foods; assure compliance with safety and sanitation regulations.
Coordinate and deliver catering orders as assigned; coordinate orders for food and supplies needed for catering events following District-approved recipes; set up trays according to approved recipes; assist with setting up activities for catering function; coordinate the pickup and tracking of equipment and small ware provided for the event; provide accounting information to appropriate personnel for billing; drive a vehicle to various sites to conduct work.
Coordinate the ordering of food and supplies for breakfast and lunches at the Fresh Express Café as assigned; assure appropriate stock levels; prepare meals ordered; communicate with sites regarding questions or clarification as needed.
Distribute food items and supplies to food service personnel as assigned by the position; prepare transport sheets; inspect shipments to assure compliance with school site specifications; fill and process daily food service orders; assure proper and timely distribution of food items and supplies; maintain related records.
Perform routine cashiering duties utilizing a Point of Sale (POS) system as assigned; count money and make correct change; pick up, count and maintain daily records of monies received. Reconcile end of the day receipts, prepare reports.
Maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition; sweep and mop floors to assure a safe and sanitary work environment; operate dishwashers and wash trays, pots, pans, plates, utensils and other serving equipment.
Clean serving counters, tables, chairs, food containers and other food service equipment; prepare food and beverages for sale; count and set-up plates, trays and utensils.
Operate a computer and assigned software; operate standard food service equipment such as slicers, warmers, ovens, fryers, stoves and carts.
Stock condiments, food items and paper goods; order, store and rotate supplies in storage areas; assist with daily and periodic inventories as assigned.
Maintain various records related to collected monies, daily food production and assigned activities.
OTHER DUTIES:
Provide direction to other staff members.
Serve as Supervisor in the absence of the Supervisor.
Oversee and assist with the distribution of food and supplies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: two years experience in quantity food preparation.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
