Position Overview
We are seeking a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer—or a Funeral Director Intern completing their required one-year internship—to join our dedicated team.
This is a hands-on, full-time role involving all aspects of funeral service, from meeting with families and coordinating services to embalming, preparation, and after-care support. The ideal candidate values professionalism, empathy, teamwork and communication, attention to detail, and is committed to serving families with dignity and respect.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet with families to arrange funeral, memorial, and cremation services with care, clarity, and compassion
- Perform embalming, preparation, and restorative work in accordance with Indiana law and professional standards
- Coordinate visitations, funerals, graveside services, and memorial events
- Ensure all legal documentation, permits, and records are completed accurately and timely
- Collaborate closely with fellow directors, support staff, clergy, cemeteries, and community partners
- Assist with transfers, removals, and on-call responsibilities as scheduled
- Maintain a professional, calm, and supportive presence throughout all interactions
- Support pre-planning services and ongoing relationships with families when appropriate
- Uphold the values, reputation, and service standards of Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home inside and outside of the funeral home and in all community interactions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
- Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the State of Indiana
- OR
- Eligible Funeral Director Intern enrolled in or completing their required internship toward Indiana licensure
- Degree(s) in Funeral Service / Mortuary Science as required by Indiana law
- Working knowledge of embalming, funeral service operations, and regulatory compliance
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, professional demeanor
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating schedule
- Confidence working directly with families during emotionally sensitive situations
- Attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset
Preferred (but not required):
- Experience in a family-owned or community-based funeral home
