What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care Attendant/ Technician Assistant position at Redstone Animal Hospital?
Reports to: Technician manager or team leaders Overall Responsibility: To assist the technicians and doctors with the flow of their appointments for both annual well visits and sick visits and other procedures performed by the doctor. Assisting with emergency doctors with treatment and overall care of hospitalized patients. The assistant must be able to work with cats, dogs, and occasional pocket pet. Your primary task as an Animal Care Attendant the cleanliness of our patients and the facility.
The responsibilities of the Animal Care Attendant, include, but are not limited to the following activities:
Restraint for lab work and treatments
Assisting technicians and doctors by keeping areas clean and clear of debris
Client communication and basic GP education (Will learn with time)
Learn how to follow appointment schedules and communicate with clients to bring back tech appointments for the outpatient technician.
Stocking and cleaning exam rooms, treatment area, surgical and dental suites.
Knowledge of common medication and filling medications (able to learn with training and monitoring for the first 90 days of employment)
Knowledge of each feeding post-op and hospitalized patients.
Knowledge of each prescription Purina diet we carry as this is vital for the feeding and care for any hospitalized and post surgical/dental patients.
Walking every patient and ensuring their bedding is clean and dry
Physical Requirements: This job is physically active and requires frequent bending and standing for long periods of time. It requires routine lifting and restraining animals. You must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. You must be okay with the cleaning of possible fluids (blood, urine, fecal matter) often. You must be okay with walking short periods of time with multiple patients every 1-2 hours.
