The Communications Specialist at Regent University plays a key role in advancing the university’s brand and mission through compelling, Christ-centered messaging. This position is responsible for crafting clear, consistent content across print, web, and digital platforms, with a focus on news stories and other outbound communications. Working collaboratively with the creative team, the Communications Specialist helps develop audience-focused copy that reflects Regent’s values and strengthens its voice across all channels.

The Communications Specialist at Regent University plays a key role in advancing the university’s brand and mission through compelling, Christ-centered messaging. This position is responsible for crafting clear, consistent content across print, web, and digital platforms, with a focus on news stories and other outbound communications. Working collaboratively with the creative team, the Communications Specialist helps develop audience-focused copy that reflects Regent’s values and strengthens its voice across all channels.
Essential Duties
- Develop time-sensitive news stories for distribution.
- Collaborate with others to create the monthly e-newsletter.
- Develop and write clear and engaging copy for a wide range of media, including web pages, email campaigns, brochures, digital ads, video and radio scripts.
- Assist in message development that communicates Regent’s unique value propositions.
- Develop content specific to each medium.
- Apply knowledge of AP style and editorial best practices to maintain consistency and quality across all communications.
- Collaborate with the content team on designated assignments.
- Maintain a strong and relevant voice among institutional peers in higher education.
- Edit and proofread copy created by other writers or departments for grammar, clarity, tone, and brand alignment.
- Attend events and serve as PR representative as assigned.
- Interview persons of interest for feature stories, newsletters, etc.
- Assumes other duties as assigned.
Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proficient writing skills
- Proficient in AP style
- Experience writing for digital marketing platforms (preferred)
- Experience writing press releases, news stories, and media advisories (preferred)
- Results-oriented with the ability to organize and independently manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Effective time-management and prioritization skills estimating appropriate time for tasks and deliverables to consistently meet deadlines
- Organizational skills, professionalism, and a creative team player mentality
- Portfolio and/or samples demonstrating a range of voice, tone, and messaging strategies across different platforms and industries is required
