We are currently recruiting for a Press Helper to join our Production Team! This role will assist the Press Operators by operating the feeder and consistently keeping the press running, keeping the inks and water full during operation and assisting with maintenance and training on the press as needed.
Responsibilities
- Follows guidance and direction from Press Operator.
- Understands ISO and complies with written procedures.
- Follows daily schedule for workload and communicates problems or concerns, assisting in resolutions in a timely manner.
- Checks cutting slip to verify count of stock is accurate prior to running, communicates discrepancies to supervisor.
- Ensures make-ready times and materials used are minimized through proper planning of work.
- Maintains knowledge of safety requirements of the job and equipment; becomes familiar with Material Safety Data Sheets regarding chemicals in use.
- Wears appropriate safety protection when using or mixing chemicals and ensures proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
- Maintains a high level of print quality to eliminate inspection delays and redo's.
- Performs preventative maintenance on press such as lubrication, replacement of small parts, cleaning and minor adjustments.
- Assists in other departments as needed and when work load permits.
- Keeps work areas clear and organized; maintains housekeeping standards.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Assists Lead press operator with his/her duties, including:
- Assists in set-up of machines for operators.
- Helps coordinate production jobs.
- Performs preventative maintenance on press such as lubrication, replacement of small parts, cleaning and minor adjustments to rollers and other small moving parts.
- Cleans up and keeps the pressroom work areas neat, clean and orderly.
- Changing and loading rolls on press
- Winds/turns stock.
- Checking register (print alignment and quality)
- “Washing” (cleaning) press
- Cleans up and keeps the pressroom work areas neat, clean and orderly.
- Maintains operating required production documentation
- Follows quality standards, maintains close tolerances, performs quality checks
- Assists operators in using other pressroom equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of basic math including weights, measures, fractions, and decimals
- Some previous printing or bindery experience helpful
- Mechanical aptitude
- Good visual acuity and color vision
- Ability to walk, stand or bend for 12 hours.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work on rotating shift three days a week
- Must be able to adhere to all safety rules
