As a Diesel Mechanic You Will:
- Read job orders and observe and listen to vehicles in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.
- Manage inventory control on the service truck and for keeping the vehicle properly stocked.
- Report to the Service Manager and will be assigned duties on a daily basis.
- Maintain availability for after-hours service calls and be available for an open work schedule.
- Handle basic maintenance of the truck including filling tank with fuel, checking oil, keeping it clean, and making sure required inspections are performed and documented as assigned.
- Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns
- Complete required paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times
- Perform inspection, diagnosis, and repair of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, suspensions, drive-train components, electrical, air conditioning, air brakes, computer diagnostics
- Conduct DOT safety checks on vehicles
- Work under limited supervision using written or verbal instructions and established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks
- Identify multiple projects and prioritize work to maximize truck utilization
- Communicate clearly and effectively at various levels to obtain and provide information needed to accomplish goals through Emails, Texts with the Fleet manager and various Contract supervisors.
Must Have:
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, emission control systems, hydraulic systems, suspensions, drive-train components, electrical, air conditioning, air brakes, and computer diagnostics.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; self-motivated and self-directed.
- Previous experience doing preventative maintenance inspections.
- Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting and repair
- Strong mechanical skills and the ability to problem-solve.
- CDL preferred. But NOT required.
- Dedication to maintain the highest standard of safety in all aspects of the job
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
- Working outdoors with exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, and other outdoor environmental conditions, constant standing and walking, climbing, working from heights, and lifting to 75 lbs.
