Summary/Objective:
The project estimator is responsible for accurately estimating the cost of construction projects from inception to completion. This includes gathering and analyzing project requirements, developing estimates, and negotiating with vendors. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction principles and practices, as well as experience using estimating software.
The base compensation range for this role is $80,000-$120,000. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skill, and experience.
Essential Functions:
- Estimate the costs for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Review and interpret architectural and engineering plans, drawings, and project specifications to ensure a comprehensive understanding of project requirements.
- Conduct site visits and assessments to gather essential information, assess site conditions, and identify potential challenges.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, including itemized quantities and unit costs for various project components.
- Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive bids and negotiate favorable terms.
- Analyze costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead, to determine accurate project estimates.
- Suggest value engineering options to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
- Identify potential risks and uncertainties in cost estimates and develop mitigation strategies.
- Prepare comprehensive and competitive bid proposals for clients that meet project specifications.
- Collaborate with project management teams to ensure a seamless transition from the estimating phase to the construction phase.
