What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equine Veterinary Assistant/Technician position at Rey and Associates Sports Medicine?
Looking for two hard-working, forward-thinking technicians to work through the 2024 WEF winter horse show series (October 2023 - April 2024). We have a busy, equine-exclusive, elite practice with a strong sports medicine focus and 3 DVMs who love to teach and share their passions. Exceptional horsemanship and horse handling experience are required, but no or little technician experience is acceptable and on-the-job training is provided. This is a physically and mentally demanding job!! You will work hard every day and you will sweat in the FL heat, but you will learn a lot about yourself and equine medicine while gaining invaluable skills applicable to the equine industry and beyond.
1. Veterinary Assistant: Duties include assisting with soundness exams, ultrasound exams, radiographs, and preparing horses for joint injections. Daily inventory management in pharmacy and mobile veterinary vehicle. Medical history recording via video and typed notes and more.
2. Therapy technician: Duties will include working with shockwave therapy machine, hot and cold lasers, therapeutic ultrasound, and DIAthermy machines as prescribed by veterinarians as well as assisting with soundness exams, ultrasound exams, radiographs, and preparing horses for joint injections, etc. Required to use your own, reliable vehicle to transport machines to each appointment; will be reimbursed per recorded mile driven for work at current federal mileage rate.
