Job Title: Patient Transportation Driver
Employment Type: Part-Time
Position Overview
The Driver/Transportation Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the hospital's operations and patient care services. This position is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for patients, including ISB (swing bed) and skilled patients, as well as courier services for the hospital and clinics. Transportation duties include both scheduled and on-demand trips, with occasional runs for lab equipment or other operational needs.
The ideal candidate will have experience driving large transit vehicles, loading and unloading patients in wheelchairs, and providing excellent customer service. CNA certification is preferred to assist with patient needs during transport.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Transportation:
- Safely transport ISB and skilled patients to and from appointments in town and out of county as needed.
- Provide transportation for skilled patients, ensuring timely and compassionate service for immediate needs.
- Assist patients with mobility challenges, including safely loading and unloading wheelchairs or other assistive devices.
- Courier Services:
- Deliver and retrieve mail, supplies, and documents between hospital locations, clinics, and other sites as needed.
- Ensure timely and accurate courier services, maintaining proper documentation of deliveries.
- Other deliveries made as needed.
- Operational Support:
- Perform vehicle maintenance checks to ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and in good working condition.
- Communicate with supervisors to coordinate schedules and address urgent transportation needs.
Qualifications
- Education and Certification:
- CNA certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Clean driving record required.
- Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a driving record background check
- Experience:
- Previous experience driving large transit vehicles, including wheelchair-accessible vans.
- Familiarity with assisting patients in wheelchairs and operating wheelchair lifts or similar equipment.
- Strong customer service skills and a professional demeanor.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet both scheduled and immediate transportation needs.
- Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to patient interactions.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
Work Environment

- Frequent driving, both in-town and out-of-county, in various weather conditions.
- Loading and unloading of patients and courier items may require moderate physical effort.
