Rice County is currently seeking a Seasonal Worker Highway Engineer to assist in Rice County's Engineering Department for the 2024 construction season. Rice County is located in southern Minnesota, about 50 miles south of the Minneapolis and St. Paul metropolitan area. The county, which encompasses an area of 516 square miles, has seven cities and 14 townships.
High school diploma or GED and valid Driver's License. This position requires walking, standing, lifting and bending to a significant degree for an extended period of time. Ability to work extended hours and some Saturdays required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous related experience or education in construction management, engineering and/or surveying. MNDOT Technical Certifications: Aggregate Production, Grading and Base 1 & 11, Concrete Field 1. HOURS: Variable, Monday - Friday with some Saturdays. Seasonal position with an approximate start date of May 2024 and an approximate end date of September 2024.

Assist survey crew, perform materials testing, project inspection and documentation.
Communicates effectively with the public, contractors and engineers.
Requires work on roads, ditches, fields and highway right of way.
Exposure to weather, dust, exhaust fumes and heavy construction traffic.
Assists Highway Maintenace Operators.
Other duties as assigned.
