Job Purpose
The phlebotomist will deliver top-notch customer service by adeptly collecting specimens and proficiently managing patient information across all age groups, adhering to the highest standards of patient care. Additionally, they may occasionally need to transport samples, ensuring both safety and timeliness. This role necessitates a valid phlebotomy license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record.
Essential Duties
- Perform venipuncture and capillary collection procedures with precision to obtain blood samples while minimizing patient discomfort across all age groups.
- Ensure specimen integrity by strictly adhering to laboratory procedures for collection, handling, and processing, while also following departmental policies, corporate programs, and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection, as well as accurate specimen handling and processing.
- Maintain accuracy in patient identification and specimen labeling, selecting appropriate tubes, containers, and storage conditions for each test type.
- Prioritize collection processes effectively and follow established guidelines for missed draws, recollects, and challenging venipuncture situations, ensuring quality outcomes through job knowledge and problem-solving skills.
- Utilize available resources for proper test collection, processing, and addressing customer inquiries.
- Adhere to safety protocols including infection control, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen guidelines, and HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in departmental quality assurance and training programs, utilizing resources efficiently and operating equipment effectively to maximize productivity.
- Utilize unstructured time productively, promoting positive customer relations through effective communication with laboratory staff and customers, while maintaining confidentiality and fostering a service-oriented environment.
- Contribute to a positive work environment by enthusiastically completing miscellaneous duties within specified timeframes.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required; one to two years of college preferred.
- Three years of laboratory training or experience in specimen collection and processing.
- Must be certified by the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
