Our experienced staff provides subject matter expertise related to utility coordination, design, construction, contracts, and risk analysis & mitigation. Our teams provide utility coordination, construction management, land surveying & permitting services, utility design, and underground utility construction services.
Role Description
This Land Agent role is a full-time position and part of our consulting division. As a Land Agent you will be responsible for various land survey & land rights matters, including discussion with private, public, or governmental bodies and agencies to obtain necessary rights-of-way, contracts, agreements, or concurrence within established policies. This work includes such duties as coordinating relocation projects, review of existing land rights to determine a utility company's right-to-occupy, review of encroachment permit applications, and gathering material and preparing preliminary reports/data sheets for use in land sales and leases. This is a hybrid role with flexibility for remote work, however most days will be spent in our Clovis, CA office.
Additional job duties may include:
- Performing routine work as a member of a survey party; making precise survey measurements using conventional and state of the art surveying instruments; interpreting legal descriptions of real property; making and interpreting survey calculations; researching, analyzing, checking, and adjusting survey data; researching title and compiling evidence and documentation for boundary determination. May be required to operate the survey vehicle.
- Preparing maps from field notes, office data, and title searches for condemnation proceedings, obtaining rights-of-way, purchasing land, obtaining government permits, and obtaining leases and other land documents. Plotting, plan profiles, road cross-sections, topography, contours, and special drawings. May be required to check mathematical computations of others.
- Assembling information for, and processing, clearing, and correcting rights-of-way and land matters. This work includes such duties as preparing legal descriptions of real property; preparing all documents necessary for the acquisition and disposition of fee property and easements, including complicated and non-standard documents; processing necessary forms for the procuring of permits; preparing and processing quitclaims; securing signatures; securing permits; inspecting property; preliminarily investigating encroachments; and preparing clear and concise reports and correspondence.
- Acting as the lead person in performing the field work necessary to procure data for the preparation of right-of-way papers, permits, leases and other land documents. This work includes such duties as coordinating the work of survey parties, conducting field survey work by running a survey party, operating survey equipment, taking field notes and directing the work of other members of the survey party.
Minimum Qualifications
- A 4-year degree, or LSIT and 2 years of land surveying/land rights experience. Other combinations of experience, education, and licensure may be considered.
- Must be able to make effective oral and written presentations on land matters
- Must have a valid California driver's license
- Must have the physical ability to perform field survey work
- Must be available for occasional out of town and overnight trips
Ideal Candidate
- Experience with PG&E, SCE, or SoCalGas land rights, designs, and construction practices
- California PLS
- 4-year degree in Land Surveying/Geomatics Engineering or Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Land Surveying
- Self-motivated with advanced interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Wage Data
Salary range for this position is $50-75/hr. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, and experience.
