What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Washer/Fueler position at River Valley Metro Mass Transit District?
NATURE OF WORK
At River Valley Metro, we expect our customers to have a pleasant experience when using our bus system. This means that every bus is serviced every night in preparation for the next day’s riders. Position performs the nightly washing of the interior and exterior of the buses, as well as fueling and checking the fluids in all River Valley Metro vehicles to ensure they are in top condition and ready for service each day. Position is under the general supervision of the Director of Maintenance.
Duties
- The exterior of each bus is cleaned and inspected every night; including but not limited to scrubbing down the bus, rims, and tires, spraying out engine and radiator compartments, and inspecting for damage.
- The Interior of each bus is cleaned and inspected every night, including but not limited to the floors, seats, windows, walls, ceilings and door jams.
- Must remove any graffiti or spots before vehicles go out into service
- Bring any mechanical repair needs to the attention of the Maintenance Department so they can be corrected.
- Remove any outdated materials from the bus and replace any that are in bad shape.
- Switch out fare box canisters nightly
- Fuel buses for daily service
- Check all fluids and refill as needed
- Assist drivers, Dispatcher and Customer Care Supervisor to ensure timely AM pullout
- Maintain clean wash bay
- Maintain a list of supplies needed to perform position
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Must obtain a CDL class B with P endorsement within 90 days of hire (training provided).
- Must pass physical, substance test, and background check
Physical Capability
The physical activity of this position requires the ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp and speak English fluently. Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Visual acuity to determine depth and field of vision
SELECTION FACTORS
- Knowledge of equipment including but not limited to power washer, fuel pumps, and diesel motors
- Knowledge in the care and use of cleaning equipment
- Knowledge in the use of cleaning materials, i.e., soaps, powders, graffiti remover, polishes and waxes
- Ability to rapidly learn the activities and procedures related to the duties and responsibilities of the position and to establish and maintain good employee and customer relations
- Ability to withstand extreme environmental conditions, i.e., heat, cold, dust, diesel smoke and pollen
- Ability to work independently, read and follow written instructions, and write clearly
- Pays attention to detail
