The Director of Med Surg assumes 24-hour responsibility for assigned patient care areas. The incumbent will promote profession practice and coordinate patient care activities in the areas of administration, clinical, and human resources. This position requires an advanced level of management expertise as demonstrated through leadership, departmental functioning and educational preparation

Job Summary And Qualifications
The Director of Med Surg assumes 24-hour responsibility for assigned patient care areas. The incumbent will promote profession practice and coordinate patient care activities in the areas of administration, clinical, and human resources. This position requires an advanced level of management expertise as demonstrated through leadership, departmental functioning and educational preparation
- You will provide positive leadership to departmental, hospital, and corporate committees and programs and empower the staff for professional decision-making at the operational level.
- You will develop and integrate departmental goals and objectives to support the hospital’s vision, mission, and strategic plan.
- You will develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the provision on one level of care or services for all patients.
- You will assess and improve department’s/service area’s performance on an ongoing basis, gather information, draw conclusions and implement performance improvements, as well as evaluate performance to achieve sustained results.
- You will encourage and consistently reinforce staff compliance with organizational policies, safety regulations, infection control procedures, ethics and compliance, risk management activities, standard precautions and proper body mechanics.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s degree – BSN required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Current valid California RN license
- Current BCLS certification
- Certified Nurse Administrator / National RN certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years recent experience in acute care/management.
- Minimum 3 years experience as a manager with 24-hour responsibility.
