The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Center for Elder Justice is the nation’s first elder abuse shelter. The Weinberg Center provides safe, short-term shelter for older adults who have experienced abuse in the community, providing a supportive space where older adults can seek justice, re-assert control, and develop the resilience they need to return to the community. This is a full-time position with the possibility for some remote work.
Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney will play an active role in our collaborative multi-disciplinary team, developing legal strategies for each client. This work often requires work with community partners, city agencies, and law enforcement. The Staff Attorney will advocate for shelter residents; provide ongoing legal services aimed at restoring safety; and appear in courts throughout the five boroughs of New York and Westchester County, including Family Court, Housing Court and Supreme Court.
The Staff Attorney will also participate in meetings with partner organizations; coordinate and provide outreach and training to a variety of professional audiences; and assist in writing grant proposals and reporting on grant activities to current funders. Policy and legislative work and writing on elder justice issues are also part of the portfolio for the position.
Candidates must have a JD and be admitted to practice in the State of New York. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required. Experience in elder abuse and/or domestic violence or victim advocacy is preferred.
Salary Range: $100K - $120K
