The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated control systems to improve manufacturing processes, ensure equipment reliability, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This role involves programming, troubleshooting, and optimizing PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and other industrial control systems.

The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated control systems to improve manufacturing processes, ensure equipment reliability, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This role involves programming, troubleshooting, and optimizing PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and other industrial control systems.
Key Accountabilities And Outcomes
- Design, program, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and VFD systems for automated equipment.
- Develop and implement control strategies to improve process efficiency and reliability.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams on equipment upgrades and new installations.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of control systems, including schematics and software backups.
- Provide technical support and training to maintenance personnel on control systems.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3 years of experience in industrial automation and controls engineering.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley).
- Experience with HMI development and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, and industrial networking.
- Knowledge of safety standards (NFPA 70E, OSHA) and control system best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with robotics, motion control, and vision systems.
- Familiarity with MES systems and data integration.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
