QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER (Ready-Mix, Aggregates)
Hi-Grade Materials is the preferred producer of construction aggregates and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials and ready-mixed concrete. We are looking to hire a Quality Control Manager for the Victor Valley/High Desert area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages all staff and dispatches field technicians
Responsible for plant mix performance
Evaluate test data and compile files for mix submittals and provide history of mix performance.
Process and test aggregates per ASTM specifications, cast and test concrete cylinders per ASTM specifications, evaluate concrete and aggregate performances, maintain mix items and costs in computer system
Knowledge of cement testing requirements and process required to obtain approvals of state agencies.
Working knowledge of concrete admixtures, supplementary cementitious materials and various aggregates and their impact to the performance in concrete mix designs
Working knowledge of concrete mix design performance with various constituents
Working knowledge of concrete, cement, and aggregate testing procedures complying with the ASTM and ACI requirements
Must be able to diagnose and analyze concrete performance issues or any concerns customers may have in the performance of mixes.
Participate in project meeting with customers and their engineering staff regarding concrete deliveries, concrete performance, and the mix submittal process.
Provide training to staff along with plant personnel and operations in any field related to the performance of concrete, cement, supplementary cementitious materials, admixtures and or any other concrete products.
Oversees concrete knowledge training for all drivers and plant staff.
Conducting quality audits to ensure that the quality policies are being adhered to.
Ability to motivate, coach, and develop employees.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Stonemont.
Must be able to work unsupervised with good communication skills.
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend assignments may be requires depending on workload and service needs
Skills Required:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience within Quality Control Management role. Prior training or experience in the materials testing field and knowledge of general principles and practices of aggregate production is required.
Safety Knowledge; must display knowledge and awareness of construction and mining site hazards.
Math Skills; must possess good math skills and demonstrate the ability to perform simple to moderately complex arithmetic calculations.
Operational Knowledge; must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rock and sand mining, ready-mix concrete, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes.
Interpersonal Skills: must be able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences. Be a strong team player that has strong written and verbal skills. Be able to deal with stressful situations with both internal and external customers.
Financial Knowledge: must possess knowledge and experience leading financial performance to established targets.
Flexibility: must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises and start at various times
Additional Responsibilities: expect to have strong working relationships with the authorities that define and measure compliance with the specifications for the aggregates, concrete industries. Develop and maintain good working relationships with the technical and operations personnel of Hi-Grade’s key customers.
Physical Requirements:
- Job requires the following motions: sitting, standing, climbing, bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, driving, riding, vibration, twisting, pushing/pulling of controls, and riding on rough terrain.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
- Use of hand tools
- Exposed to extremes of hot and cold weather
- Ability to follow company policies, work cooperatively with others
- Obtain and maintain all necessary OSHA and MSHA training certifications
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships
- Familiarity with & ability to follow MSHA/OSHA safety guidelines
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to work varying shifts, including weekends and overtime when required; nights may be required for specific projects
