Matchmaking is the gateway to every shared experience on Roblox. It determines who you play with, how you join a session, and ultimately, the quality of your gameplay. As one of the most critical systems on our platform, matchmaking connects millions of players to each other and to the vast universe of experiences on Roblox—reliably, intelligently, and at scale.

As the Product Leader for Matchmaking, you will define and lead the roadmap for how users connect with each other across Roblox. Your work will shape the algorithms, systems, and creator tools that drive social connection, improve player satisfaction, and enhance long-term engagement. This is a rare opportunity to rethink multiplayer at platform scale, and to build the connective tissue that powers the future of shared creation and play.

You Will

• Own the vision and roadmap for Roblox’s matchmaking systems, spanning core algorithmic optimization, and creator customization capabilities.
• Scale a mission-critical service that ensures reliable and performant joins for millions of players across a globally distributed infrastructure.
• Drive algorithmic improvements Map user, community, and platform value to traceable metrics and machine learning objectives that optimize for enhancing the play experience by incorporating new signals..
• Empower creators with machine learning based optimizations and insights that help them balance engagement, social interaction, and game design goals
• Collaborate cross-functionally with infrastructure, engine, data science, and creator teams to build systems that are reliable, extensible, and impactful at global scale.
• Translate platform-wide growth goals into concrete matchmaking innovations that compound the effects of both the content and social flywheels on Roblox.
  
  

You Are

• Experienced, with 8 years of product management experience, ideally in large-scale systems, infrastructure, or consumer platforms; familiarity with matchmaking systems, real-time infrastructure, or recommender systems is a plus.
• Formal degree in a technical or applied quantitative field such as: Machine learning, Statistics, Compute Science, Operations research or similar
• Deeply technical, with a strong understanding of distributed systems, algorithms, and data-driven product development; capable of working closely with engineers on architecture and trade-offs.
• Player- and creator-centric, with a strong intuition for user experience and creator goals; you balance platform metrics with qualitative understanding of what makes great gameplay and social connection.
• Metrics- and impact-driven, you can translate product changes into measurable outcomes like improvements in retention, session quality, and network effects.
• Highly collaborative, with a track record of leading through influence across product, engineering, design, and data teams.
• Self-directed, comfortable operating in ambiguity, and driven by curiosity, creativity, and a desire to scale systems that touch millions.
  
  

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$324,450—$375,590 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
