What are the responsibilities and job description for the Client Transportation Van Driver position at Rochester Area Neighborhood House?
JOB TITLE: Van Driver (part-time)
JOB STATUS: This is a part-time position (roughly 15 hours a week, with 1 week on and 1 week off)
REPORTS TO: Director of Client Services
JOB SUMMARY: We’re looking for a personable, dependable and safety conscious driver to transport the clients of Neighborhood House to medical, dental or social service appointments in the area using the agency van. You will also be responsible for pick-up and delivery of food as scheduled. You will work with Neighborhood House staff to improve processes and meet passenger needs.
COMPENSATION: $14 per hour, Paid Holidays, Vacation and Personal Time Off
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Safely and securely transport passengers to medical, dental, or social service appointments.
- Manage scheduled rides and coordinate passenger rides.
- Manage transportation calendar.
- Manage ride request spreadsheet.
- Monitor Neighborhood House cell phone usage and check incoming messages.
- Respond to client within 24 hours of request being created; check transportation spreadsheet daily.
- Work closely with staff and volunteers to coordinate delivery of services.
- Work with other drivers to coordinate work transitions (i.e. knowledge of passengers, transfer of cell phone, transfer of keys, driver documentation and scheduling.)
- Maintain regular checks on the agency van and report malfunctions to the Executive Director or Office Manager.
- Keep the agency van clean and filled with gas.
- Abide by all traffic rules and adhere to sound traffic practices.
- Report any passenger misuse, abuse or violation of Neighborhood House transportation policies.
- Attend agency meetings as required.
Required education and/or certifications:
- Valid Michigan Chauffeur License
Qualifications:
- Safe and expert driving skills
- Live within 10 miles of our Main Office
- Good mobility.
- Knowledge of geographical area.
- Ability to relate well and establish trust with all types of people.
- Ability to effectively communicate by phone.
- Ability to use the internet, a map application and Microsoft 365.
- Ability to manage/predict distance and time to locations to coordinate ride schedules within our driving boundaries.
- Legible handwriting skills.
- Ability to act as liaison between client and case manager when made aware of client concerns during a ride.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR.
