Detailed Job Description
Please note-this position may require occassional willingness to travel to off-campus events and some evening and weekend work.

Responsibilities:

Communications Research and Writing
  • Creates written copy for Office materials including print and electronic publications, social media, reports, news stories, newsletters, and event listings, and advertising. Creative writing must consistently reflect the Office's thinking on career and job search topics. Includes drafting original copy, both routine and non-routine, and rewriting text. Repurposes text to distribute in multiple formats. May work with staff to meet Office objectives.
  • Responsible for research, including gathering and fact checking information to prepare accurate written copy while meeting deadlines. Provides copywriting, editing and proofreading of Office materials as they are readied for publication. Research includes identifying distribution opportunities.
Content Marketing
  • Manages and executes content marketing deliverables to cover topics aligned with RIT Office of Career Services' strategy and goals. Content management includes executing content creation calendar covering an optimal mix of marketing outlets including: onsite displays, internal and external websites, social media posts and influencers, email distribution, and print.
  • Designs page layouts, emails, newsletters, and graphics for Office web site, social media, email campaigns, and print materials. Edits images and photographs. Uses photography skills to capture images for promotional materials, stories and social media posts. Adheres to RIT and Office style guidelines and standards. Prepares image files meeting specifications for printed projects.
  • Analyzes digital reports including Google Analytics, Social Media, and email distribution reports for presentations and pulls out key findings to help make decisions for improving effectiveness of content marketing plans.
  • Consults with Faculty, Staff and other RIT constituents and friends of the University to establish content partners for website, plus department and program materials. Implements regular audit schedule ensuring content for all materials are audited on a regular schedule.
Digital MediManagement
  • Serves as primary content editor for www.careerservices.com, applying metrics driven, and goal-orientated planning. Helps manage look and feel, navigational architecture, and content to optimize SEO and SEM results. Uses Content Management System and graphic programs to perform all web edits supporting Office of Career Services' goals. Conceptualizes design, creates new pages and revises pages without need for approval which includes creation of text, applying RIT Web Standards and Graphics. Needs to be able to edit graphics for optimal website performance. Publishes edits directly to website without need for approval. Works with University Web Services and ITS to address programming needs.
  • Maintains and expands a social media presence for the Office of Career Services with consistent branding across sites. Manages optimal mix of social media sites to maintain presence on each. Establishes proper balance between reactive and proactive approaches that optimize reach and relevance to Office's mission. Creates annual social media plan with clear objectives and metrics to track performance. Actively utilize social media listening tools and seeks to engage influencers.
Content Coordination
  • Coordinates the dissemination of marketing materials via the website, email, social media, and in print. Identifies opportunities social media, internal distribution lists, and custom or purchased lists. Maintains and utilizes email distribution lists for e-newsletters while managing email accounts.
  • Places orders for print promotional materials. Includes coordinating with University Publications production schedules for publications, trafficking proofs and ensuring that necessary approvals are obtained. Includes liaisons to internal partners to ensure that production deadlines are met.
  • Maintains on-campus communication assets such as display screens and brochure holders. Conceptualizes and implements monthly plans for content updates. Maintains awareness of how Office of Career Services is represented on and off campus and how the representation is in line with Communication and Marketing strategic goals.
Administrative Support
  • Input student and alumni events into Office career platform (Handshake) and online RIT Event Calendar.

Department/College Description

Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree preferably in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Public Relations, English, Journalism, or related field.
Minimum 1-3 years of related experience

SPECIALIZED SKILLS
  • Requires strong writing and communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable working with digital media including website management (including content management software), social media, and email distribution.
  • Previous experience designing or managing websites. Basic knowledge of HTML and ability to resize photo and graphic files for web use is needed.
  • Requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented and goal-driven environment.
  • Ability to proof and edit existing material and create original content and write news stories.
  • Graphic design skills for image creation, typography and page layouts.
  • Experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Office administration, organization, coordination, facilitation, report writing.
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel to off-campus events and some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop).
