What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physician-General Surgery position at Rochester Regional Health Careers?
Position Summary:
Develop a general surgery practice for The Rochester General Hospital and Unity Hospital (the “Hospitals”); provide general surgery clinical coverage, including admissions, consultative services, in the Emergency Department (ED), and other areas throughout the Hospitals as needed. Elective practice and office coverage of new and follow up patients.
Play an integral role in teaching of physician assistants (PA) students, Nurse Practitioners, residents, and medical students. Provide additional structure and direction to the training provided to PA and medical students and existing Advanced Practice Providers on staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and run a high quality clinical general surgery practice in conjunction with the existing general surgeons. This will include inpatient and outpatient practice as well as emergent, urgent, and elective patient care. The patient care coverage and call will be shared with the other general surgeons. The role of each surgeon in the practice can vary as determined by the surgeon and Chair of surgery or his/her designee. This may involve more time as part of an emergency general surgery role, providing the in hospital care, as mutually agreed upon.
- Call coverage will be determined by the surgeon’s role (more oriented to the emergency general surgeon in the hospital or elective practice with call responsibilities).
- Collaborate with the Chief of Surgery and Associate Chief of Surgery to develop a high quality, successful physician assistant education program within the Hospital. Participate in the development and the implementation of efforts to grow the program.
- Organize and orchestrate the clinical education for the PA students rotating through RGH as well as the existing surgical non-physician providers on staff at RGH.
- Cover ED, unreferred General Surgery, Trauma Call, and Practice Call
- The potential exists for modifying the number of calls per month, as mutually agreed upon by Hospital and Physician.
- Be readily available when providing on-call coverage. Physician should be able to respond telephonically within twenty (20) minutes of being paged or phoned by physician, APP, or nursing team members.
- Be on site for patient care within 30 minutes of notification.
- Have no other call responsibilities when covering the Hospital.
- Cover hospital/trauma backup Call at the Hospitals as assigned by the Chief of Surgery or his or her designee.
- Provide assistance in the operating room as assigned by the Chief of Surgery or his or her designee.
- Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the Contract or Exhibits, Physician will participate in any decision that may change the location of Physician’s professional practice and Hospital and Physician shall mutually consent to any change in site location.
- Comply with the following timeframes for completion and/or submission of the identified documentation below, recognizing that the following list is not all inclusive of all documentation that will be required of Physician:
- Dictated OR reports – 24 hours
- Consultations, admission notes, and progress notes – 24 hours
- Billing information – 72 hours
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of General Surgery residency program.
- One or more years’ experience in practice desirable but not required.
- Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
- Graduation from accredited medical school program.
- Completion of General Surgery residency requirements.
- Board certification or eligibility.
- New York State license.
PAY TRANSPARANCY:
In addition to the base pay range, certain provider positions may be eligible for variable compensation in accordance with health system pay practices. This may include: productivity and/or value based clinical incentives, bonus compensation, or other forms of variable pay.
