What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant Program Coordinator position at Rock Valley College?
- Serve as the point person for the Medical Assistant Program: faculty, students, community.
- Provide leadership and coordination for all activities of the Certified Medical Assistant program.
- Provide leadership and guidance in all curriculum and evaluation activities of the Certified Medical Assistant program, including program assessment and learning outcomes assessment.
- Develop and/or maintain positive relationships with the program's clinical sites.
- Coordinate agency clinical placements and affiliation agreements.
- Supervise and support all aspects of the student learning and evaluation at the program's clinical placements sites. This will require regular travel to the clinical sites.
- Provide orientation and inner-rater reliability activities for clinical preceptors.
- Provide oversight of the clinical and externship experiences.
- Oversee student clinical requirements as required by clinical site.
- Ensure appropriate and sufficient evaluation of student achievement in clinical and externship experiences.
- Provide instruction, on a selected basis, for theory & lab courses in the program.
- Plan course assignment, evaluate student performance, assign grades, and conduct course assessment and revision.
- Lead curriculum revision.
- Review student learning needs, course needs and select textbooks as well as other supportive student learning material.
- Provide and coordinate instruction for laboratory courses.
- Coordinate and implement a recruitment plan to meet the program's targeted admission goals.
- Coordinate the admission review process of all applications to the Certified Medical Assistant program.
- Assist with advisement for applicants to the program.
- Develop and annually review the Medical Assistant Student Handbook.
- Conducts new student orientation.
- Provide advisement and support for students while they are enrolled in the program to facilitate successful retention leading to program completion.
- Ensures students have met graduation requirements.
- Facilitate Medical Assistant Pinning ceremonies.
- Maintain AAMA tracking success: Utilizing evidence-based assessment tools, leading to program improvement.
- Provide recommendations to the Dean on credit course schedules and instructional staff assignments.
- Provide recommendations for hire as well as mentoring and direct supervision for the program's instructional staff.
- Plan and coordinate professional development for the instructional staff.
- Acts as a resource to adjuncts and coordinate adjunct mentoring and evaluation processes.
- Maintain, with the division Dean and staff, communication essential to management of the program.
- Assist the Dean in developing and monitoring the program budget. Prepares for grants.
- Conduct annual Medical Assistant Advisory Committee meetings: prepare agenda, lead meetings, disseminate minutes.
- Maintain the Medical Assistant website and marketing materials to reflect current information.
- Annually review the Medical Assistant section of the college catalog for current information.
- Coordinates ICCB 5 year program review.
- Maintains CAAHEP accreditation by remaining compliant with CAAHEP standards.
- Maintain office hours as needed to support the program and the division.
- Develop and coordinate, as needed, new programs relating to Certified Medical Assistant.
- Attend and participate in professional development relevant to the program and personal/professional development goals.
- Participate in committee activities as appropriate in the Nursing & Allied Health Division, College, and community that will enhance the Medical Assistant program.
- Associate’s Degree,
- Have had instruction in educational theory and techniques,
- Be credentialed in good standing in medical assisting by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the Nation Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
- Three years of employment in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of 160 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by medical assistants.
- Must have one year teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational/technical education.

Job Summary:
Responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning, and development. Lead, develop, coordinate, and support operational and strategic components of the Certified Medical Assistant Program. Responsible for attaining and maintaining CAAHEP accreditation. Responsible for student retention initiatives. Candidates must exhibit an effective leadership style that supports the Medical Assistant Associate Degree, adjunct faculty, and a diverse student population. Excellent customer service must be provided to students, program instructional staff, college administration and staff, clinical affiliates, and others through all methods of contact.
