What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Equity Underwriter I position at Rockland Trust?
This position is responsible for the granting of Home Equity Lines/Loans and Consumer Loans generated by the Branch Network, Call Center, Internet and Direct Mail Marketing. The jobholder must have strong decision making skills to independently arrive at sound lending decisions according to policy and underwriting guidelines, while maintaining a high level of risk and compliance focus and competence.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
- Ensure loans meet the quality standards, policy and guidelines of the Bank.
- Maintain, manage and monitor a working queue and large pipeline
- Confidently, recommend decisions on loans outside of lending authority to Management
- Assist in loan reviews related to compliance, post-closing/funding, audits and exams and manage timely responses to all requests.
- Work closely with Retail Branch and other business units, provide product and workflow/process guidance to ensure an exemplary customer experience
- Continually review technology and process to recommend improvements and identify issues management
- Review and decision other lending requests such as rate concessions, HELOC conversion loans and subordinations.
- Create and maintain relationships with vendors and business partners
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of prior underwriting experience in the residential mortgage or consumer lending industry.
- Ability to self-motivate to manage and monitor a working queue and pipeline.
- Ability to conduct a comprehensive review of personal and corporate tax returns and financial statements to analyze and ensure the borrower(s) ability to repay the loan. (Includes, self-employed, sole Proprietorship, Partnership, S-Corp, Corporate and non-taxable income)
- Ability to conduct a thorough analysis of consumer credit, income and property value to make loans within an established level of risk.
- Strong knowledge of Consumer Lending products including but not limited to, Home Equity Lines of Credit, Home Equity Loans, Personal lines of credit, Installment/term loans, and Cash Secured Loans.
- Experience in residential and consumer lending platforms and other related technology.
- Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be detail oriented and must be able to keep pace with a busy, fast paced, paperless environment.
- Candidate must have knowledge in regulations as pertaining to residential and consumer underwriting including, TRID, FLOOD, and QM/ATR, REG B and HMDA.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
