POSITION: Mathematics Teacher
LOCATION: Rogers High School
REPORTS TO: Principal and or designee of Rogers High School
SCHOOL YEAR: 2024/2025
JOB DESCRIPTION: To create flexible high school grade programs and an environment favorable to learning
and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students; to develop skills,
attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, in accordance with each
student’s ability; and to establish good relationships with parents, staff members and their administrators.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
➢ Must hold a valid RI Certification with Secondary Grades Mathematics teacher (Grades 7-12)
➢ Evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student;
➢ Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process;
➢ Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, education
experience, teaching, educational experience, and the interview process;
➢ Any such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may deem acceptable and
appropriate.
➢ Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training
RESPONSIBILITIES:
➢ Teaches courses in Mathematics, utilizing the School Department’s curriculums and other appropriate
learning activities;
➢ Develops lesson plans, and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group
instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;
➢ Provides individual or small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students
and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects may be worked on simultaneously;
➢ Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction;
➢ Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning
atmosphere in the classroom;
➢ Evaluates students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress
reports;
➢ Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and
interpret the school program;
➢ Identifies students’ needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping
students solve health, attitude, and learning problems;
➢ Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards,
and interest centers;
➢ Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and
self-selected professional growth activities;
➢ Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides, maintains required inventory records;
➢ Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day;
➢ Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program;
➢ Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the
classroom;
➢ Participates in curriculum development programs as required;
➢ Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities;
➢ Performs such other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or designee at Rogers High School.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the
Teachers’ Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department
of Education for certified educators.
