POSITION: Mathematics Teacher LOCATION: Rogers High School REPORTS TO: Principal and or designee of Rogers High School SCHOOL YEAR: 2024/2025 JOB DESCRIPTION: To create flexible high school grade programs and an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students; to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, in accordance with each student’s ability; and to establish good relationships with parents, staff members and their administrators. EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE: ➢ Must hold a valid RI Certification with Secondary Grades Mathematics teacher (Grades 7-12) ➢ Evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student; ➢ Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process; ➢ Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, education experience, teaching, educational experience, and the interview process; ➢ Any such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may deem acceptable and appropriate. ➢ Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training RESPONSIBILITIES: ➢ Teaches courses in Mathematics, utilizing the School Department’s curriculums and other appropriate learning activities; ➢ Develops lesson plans, and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student; ➢ Provides individual or small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects may be worked on simultaneously; ➢ Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction; ➢ Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom; ➢ Evaluates students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports; ➢ Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program; ➢ Identifies students’ needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems; ➢ Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers; ➢ Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities; ➢ Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides, maintains required inventory records; ➢ Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day; ➢ Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program; ➢ Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom; ➢ Participates in curriculum development programs as required; ➢ Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities; ➢ Performs such other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or designee at Rogers High School. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers’ Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified educators. Applicants are not to approach members of the Newport School Committee. Individual contact between applicants and School Committee members may constitute grounds for disqualifying an application.
