What are the responsibilities and job description for the Slitter Operator position at Rolled Metal Products, Inc.?
Position is for the set-up and operation of a Stainless Steel slitting line on our 2nd shift. Operator will train on 1st shift and then transition to 2nd shift once qualified. The operator will be responsible for safety in the work area, processing of material, quality of material, and efficiency of the machine. Operator will start at base pay rate and then increase to operator level pay rate once trained.
The operator must read work orders and create appropriate setup for slitting material. The gauge and width of material will be measured and recorded for every order processed. The material will be inspected for defects while processing and all defects will be reported to supervision. The operator must be able to assist and instruct his helpers and packagers.
Summary of Position
The Slitter Operator is responsible for the overall productivity of the slitter line, to meet or exceed operational goals set by Supervisor and/or Plant Manager, maintain safety of operator, helper, and machine, and cross-train the Slitter Helper at Rolled Metal Products, Inc.
Responsibilities and Duties
As a minimum, the following is a basic description of typical duties and responsibilities expected of the Slitter Operator position. These duties are not exhaustive and are subject to change as the needs of the organization require.
- Build set-ups by placing spacers and knives onto the slitter arbors at order-specified widths for the metal coils to be cut to the customer’s specifications.
- Monitor the process of metal being cut, knowing the gauge of each coil, and adjusting equipment accordingly.
- Produce metal products to conform to customer specifications and quality requirements.
- Enter data legibly and accurately of the exact specifications onto the appropriate forms for eventual data entry into the computer.
- Direct Slitter Helper how to stage coils to be processed for maximum efficiency.
- Inform Plant Manager when supplies to perform job duties are in low supply.
- If required, safely drive the forklift in the plant to move coils and skids to designated areas.
- Operate the over-head crane to move coils to the slitter from storage and/or from the slitter to next appropriate area.
- Keep immediate work area clean and organized throughout the day.
- Use precision when operating tools such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
- Cross train the Slitter Helper.
- Adhere to all RMP’s safety rules, regulations, and quality standards.
- Adhere to all RMP’s handbook policies and procedures.
