POSITION SUMMARY

The Primer will prepare each apparatus for paint by spraying on the primer. They will tape, mask, and apply plastic cover to body and cab openings before the application of primer. The Primer will prep clean each truck by blowing off dust and dirt, using wax and grease remover, and wiping off with sticky towel to ensure the surface is prepped for primer. Also, they will complete tasks in each position within the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Prepares each apparatus for paint by spraying on the primer.
2. Tapes, masks, and applies plastic cover to body and cab openings before the application of primer.
3. Prep cleans each truck by blowing off dust and dirt, using wax and grease remover, and wiping off with sticky towel to ensure the surface is prepped for primer.
4. Sprays each truck with three coats of primer and an additional three coats of white with splatter in compartments if specified in the spec book.
5. Keeps up on maintenance of paint equipment.
6. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the organization and our members.

• High School Diploma/GED.

• Associates degree in Autobody.

Position Requirements:

• Locate work orders and process them within the time allotment according to the work order, production schedule, and department objectives.
• Ability to read a tape measure accurately and precisely.
• Ability to identify quality issues and recognize changes within ones production process and make the needed adjustments.
• Able to read and work from blueprints/spec book.
• Able to follow written and verbal directions and do so with a positive attitude.
• You recognize the importance and adherence to all safety policies in order to promote a safe working environment, for everyone at the organization.

Language Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills:

• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s, including the ability to perform these operations using units of American money.

Reasoning Ability:

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

• Ability to perform simple tasks, such as typing a letter and using basic commands such as setting tabs, opening, and closing files, simple formulas.
• Prior experience with a computer terminal and/or PC.

• Responsibilities are frequently guided and reviewed by a supervisor.
• They follow a standard set of instructions that describe the proper procedures for handling problems that may occur.
• Supervisor or other personnel would handle any problems not covered by these instructions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is in a general shop where different tasks are completed and has access to all welfare facilities. There is no AC located in the shop, so it is usually humid and sometimes wet in the shop. Also, with no AC, it can become extremely hot in the shop during the summer. It is rarely cold in the shop with the bake booth being constantly ran. There is also constant noise with all the machines that are used inside the shop, which can make it difficult to talk or hear. Besides noise, some of the machines produce vibrations when being used. Most of the hazards come from the chemicals in the paint but following proper procedures should minimize risk. There are constant fumes being produced by the pressure pots and spraying of paint causing a lot of airborne particles in the air. Sometimes there can be low light when working on some areas of the truck. Space within the shop can be confined, causing limitations on any movement. When working in this position, there will be times were climbing onto or underneath trucks may be necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires standing, walking, and the use of hands for the entire shift. The noise level of the Paint shop is moderate, so it is usually not difficult to talk or hear, unless near a running machine. During shifts, some projects require the use of feet, shoulders, arms, legs, fingers, and hands for over 60 minutes at a time. As Spot Repair, climbing ladders, stooping, or kneeling, and reaching are required to complete job duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus, and good depth perception. All positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds.
