MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST MT/MLS/MLT The Medical Technologist performs routine and complex procedures in blood bank, chemistry, hematology, serology, microbiology, urinalysis, and phlebotomy. A Medical Technologist obtains and receives specimens, performs clinical laboratory tests by standardized procedures, understands method principles, performs quality control, performs preventative maintenance, and interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits. The Medical Technologist works independently, organizes work to meet established deadlines, records all data obtained, and maintains job competence. The job also involves effective communication and interpersonal skills. The Medical Technologist will assume the responsibility of the supervisor in their absence. Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: 1. Performs routine and specialized clinical laboratory procedures according to established standards and procedures, using proper technique and equipment in the performance of duties to assure biological and physical safety and accuracy. Work must be performed accurately in the judgement of the supervisor and with no more than two documented major errors per evaluation year. Follows written procedures to independently perform routine diagnostic testing which may include, but is not limited to, the following: Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Chemistry, Clinical Microscopy, Immunohematology, Donor Collection and Processing, Therapeutic Drug monitoring, Microbiology, Serology. 2. Routinely performs quality control and maintenance procedures as a part of normal workflow. 3. Maintains and increases professional knowledge. This aspect of performance will be assessed by supervisory review. 4. Properly collects and prepares specimens with efficiency and accuracy for subsequent testing to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of results used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. 5. Utilizes functions of the information system including all functions associated with ordering and resulting laboratory tests. 6. Customer Service: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service. Regulatory Requirements: • Certification as a Medical Technologist MT/MLS/MLT/CLT by ASCP or equivalent, required within 6 months of hire. • Excellent computer and inter-personal skills. Language Skills: • Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. • Strong written and verbal skills. • Additional languages preferred. • Basic computer knowledge.
