Mechanical Technician

The Science Team at Russell Tobin & Associates supporting the Engineering team that has an opening for Mechanical Technician in Monroe, NC!

Position Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on, mechanically inclined Lab Technician II to support the testing and evaluation of fire-fighting equipment, specifically Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). This is a physically active role involving setup, operation, and performance testing of protective gear.

Additional Details:
Contract Length: 6 months with the possibility of extension
Pay range: $22 to $25/hour on W2

• Perform physical and mechanical performance tests on firefighter protective equipment (e.g., SCBA).
• Set up and operate environmental test chambers, including HALT, vibration, salt-fog, and repetitive cycling tests.
• Record, interpret, and document test results clearly and accurately.
• Follow established test protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot test issues or anomalies.
• Maintain a clean and organized lab workspace.
• Use basic computer software (e.g., Excel) for documentation and reporting.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 1 years of hands-on lab or technical experience, or 3 years of relevant mechanical or test environment experience.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools, test rigs, and equipment.
• Ability to lift 40-45 lbs regularly and stand for extended periods.
• Strong time management, communication, and documentation skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
