Control System Safety Engineer
Location : Indianapolis, IN or Cincinnati, OH
Salary : $88000 to $132000
Overview : An industry-leading engineering firm is seeking a Control System Safety Engineer to join their growing team. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile programs, addressing complex technological challenges as part of a global, multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities :
Develop and maintain Safety Cases for Electronic Engine Control and Monitoring Systems to ensure single fault tolerance and compliance with engine functional hazard rates and certification requirements.
Provide technical guidance and direction to a small team of engineers, ensuring outcomes meet appropriate standards and quality.
Collaborate with the global engineering community for knowledge exchange and identify areas for collaboration.
Support full life cycle development and mentor junior engineers on processes, tools, and technical solutions.
Travel up to 20% between various sites and up to 10% other travel.
Key Accountabilities :
Collaborate with other teams and customers to develop control system safety work products such as System Safety and Reliability Assessment, Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and Common Cause Analysis (CCA).
Work with cross-functional teams to uphold high standards of technical capability, quality, and professionalism.
Provide and support engineering and process guidance, training, and documentation.
Prepare and review technical documentation for quality and completeness.
Resolve complex problems using acquired technical experience and knowledge.
Communicate complex technical ideas effectively.
Basic Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering with 2 years of product development engineering experience, OR
Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, OR
PhD in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering
Experience with requirements management
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Preferred Requirements :
5 years of product safety engineering experience
Experience applying agile development methods to deliver engineering work products
Experience with military qualification and / or FAA certification of airborne systems
Familiarity with standards such as ARP4754, ARP4761, MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-1629, DO-178C, DO-254, AMCOM 385, and IEE 1633-2016
Experience with gas turbine engines, propulsion, or electrical control systems
Demonstrated experience with control system design and tools such as Fault Tree , Reliability Workbench, DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler
Knowledge of systems engineering, robust design tools, and model-centric development approaches
