POSITION: Houseman
STATUS: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Environmental Operations
REPORTS TO: Environmental Operations Manager
POSITION CONCEPT:
To Serve the Mission, Vision and Values of REH, Inc., for Ruth Eckerd Hall, the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre and The Sound by supporting banquet and meeting activities and setting up spaces indoors and outdoors according to event specifications. Assist environmental operations and food & beverage management in ensuring a functional, clean facility and an excellent experience for clients and patrons. This position may be assigned to shifts at any of the three venues.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Set up and tear down meeting and banquet rooms as prescribed on the function sheets.
- Maintain awareness of daily event schedule.
- Maintain conference equipment by checking all aspects of aesthetics and condition requiring bending and kneeling to floor level to ensure upholstery, legs on chairs, tables, and other equipment are safe and presentable.
- Inventory, label and secure equipment in proper storage areas.
- Organize and clean banquet storage, audiovisual area, linen storage shelves and equipment as directed.
- Maintain cleanliness of all equipment including tables, chairs, carts, etc.
- Assist in keeping banquet areas clean including vacuuming and light maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, tightening table legs, etc.
- Clean kitchen equipment, storage rooms, banquet bars and assist kitchen staff as directed.
- Set-up and tear down tents and green screens.
- Remove collected trash.
- Assist with heavy lifting of barricades.
- Professionally represent Ruth Eckerd Hall at all times.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or the equivalent required.
- One to Two years’ experience of houseman and/or general labor work in a large facility.
Demonstrated Skills or Knowledge:
- Ability to multi-task and be successful in a high volume fast paced environment.
- Ability to listen and communicate information and ideas verbally and effectively.
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense for a given situation.
- Ability to relate to a diverse group of people, work within a team environment, and develop and maintain positive working relationships.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to read, write and speak basic English.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to push, pull and lift a variety of conference tables and other equipment weighing up to 70 pounds; put risers into place safely, each weighing 150 pounds; move chairs of various weights and styles, stanchions, podiums, etc.
- Able to be on your feet for long periods-of-time.
- Ability to safely perform required tasks that include bending, twisting, lifting, etc.
- Ability to access all areas of facility.
- Ability to work outdoors in various climates.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours.
- Ability to maintain good attendance is a condition of employment and a function of this position.
Other:
- Third Shift / Evening / Weekend availability with all schedules/shifts open to change.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Successful completion of a background check, drug & physical screening.
