What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coder I position at Rutland Regional Medical Center?
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, assigns diagnostic, procedural & E&M codes to patient medical record. Codes charts under the ICDCM, PCS and HCPCS Systems related to patient's visit in order provide statistical, payment and DRG assignments. Abstracts required data into hospital abstracting system and assigns codes and charges based on documentation. Responsible for accurate charge capture and coding to support timely billing and hospital reimbursement. Coder must work in a self-directed team environment to keep revenue cycle performance current.Onsite for up to 6 months, then one day per week.Minimum Education
- Equivalent to an Associate's degree in medical information technology (with college level courses in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, ICDCM coding, and prospective payment) required.
- College level course in Anatomy & Physiology required.
- Evidence of successful complete of basic coding coursework (i.e. Stafford, AHIMA, AAPC etc.)Minimum Work Experience
- 6 months of experience preferred.
- Recent health information, ER or hospital financial background.Required Licenses / Certifications
- Eligible for designation as a CCS-P or CCS preferred.Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Demonstrate moderate knowledge of basic computer skills.
