Summary/Objective
The Materials Manager will support the business success by directing, planning, procuring, scheduling, storing and controlling inventory and materials in the manufacturing and shipping process. They will do this by providing support to production scheduling on all material flow issues to meet production schedules and customer requirements. Interfaces with the plant manager and supervisors on the planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Develops and installs policies and procedures to assure efficient operation of the shipping and scheduling departments. Works with other department managers/supervisors to assure efficient operation of their areas. Works with department managers / supervisors to resolve problems affecting production schedules and delivery commitments.
· Responsible for operating within the scope of company polices and according to budgetary limitations.
· Works with all departments towards Continuous Improvement/cost reductions of operations and keeps immediate supervisor updated of progress in meeting schedules and overall goals.
· Direct the development of annual and monthly production and inventory plans which will optimize production and inventory costs and ensure finished product availability to meet requirements generated by the sales department.
· Ensure that production and inventory plans are understood and followed; analyze actual sales trends in comparison with budgets and production capabilities.
· Plans and organizes activities to do with acquisition, distribution, movement and storage of material: exercise control over areas such as purchasing, production, planning and control, material handling, shipping and receiving. This includes creation and monitor of supplier scorecards and negotiations on LTA, price and delivery.
· Directs and authorizes preparation of production master schedules to reflect manufacturing capabilities, available labor, delivery dates, etc. and assures coordination of the purchasing function within this ability.
· Develops and maintains methods of communication of schedule fulfillment, delays and changes.
· Responsible for inventory control consistent with company policy on material requirements and to assure preparation of periods of high and low production demand.
· Meets periodically with the management staff to discuss and resolve problems involving production scheduling, engineering, manufacturing, shipping and labor, etc.
· Establishes and/or approves budget for departments supervised and implements controls necessary to keep expenditures within budgetary limitations. Reviews various reports from subordinates to determine expenditures related to budgetary allowances.
· Prepare periodic reports or other data for presentation to the management team indicating record of achievement on established goals, recommended improvements, projected personnel requirements, etc.
· Periodically review performance of team and recommends salary adjustments accordingly. Also recommends or makes determinations on such matters as promotions, transfers, hiring, disciplinary action, etc.
· Provides for and authorizes training programs to assure a high level of proficiency among employees supervised.
· Performs related miscellaneous duties or other assignments as directed.
· Frequent contact with customers, suppliers and service agencies in the performance of the function
Education / Requirements:
· Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management or Supply Chain Management)
· 10 years’ experience in Material Management with 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role
· APICS CPIM preferred
· Able to work in a shop floor environment

· Strong Communication skills (written and verbal) - Proven communication skills and action/results orientation. The ability to actively network with vendors and suppliers.
