Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate ASAM Criteria Addictions Counselor with a strong Islamic background to join our team. This position involves assessing clients, developing personalized treatment plans, conducting individual and group therapy sessions, and collaborating with a diverse team of professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine clients' addiction severity, mental health status, and related needs according to ASAM criteria.
Recognize the role of spirituality and Islamic beliefs in clients' lives and incorporate this understanding into assessment and treatment planning.
- Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans based on ASAM criteria, considering the client's addiction severity, readiness for change, and cultural and Islamic beliefs.
Collaborate with clients to set achievable goals, taking into account their spiritual and religious values.
- Counseling and Therapy: Provide individual and group counseling sessions that integrate evidence-based therapeutic approaches with Islamic teachings.
Facilitate discussions around addiction, recovery, and mental health from an Islamic perspective, while respecting diverse interpretations within the faith.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate a deep understanding of Islamic beliefs, values, and practices, and apply this knowledge to foster a culturally sensitive and inclusive environment.
Address religious concerns and integrate faith-based coping strategies into the treatment process.
- Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of counselors, psychologists, social workers, and medical professionals to ensure a holistic approach to client care.
Provide insights and guidance to the team regarding Islamic practices and cultural nuances.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, treatment plans, progress notes, and assessments in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Education and Outreach: Conduct workshops, presentations, and educational sessions for clients and staff to promote awareness and understanding of Islamic perspectives on addiction and recovery.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Valid licensure as a counselor (ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LGADC, LCADC) with a solid foundation in addiction counseling.
- In-depth knowledge of ASAM criteria and evidence-based addiction treatment approaches.
- Strong understanding of Islamic teachings, culture, and practices, with the ability to integrate them into counseling.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster a therapeutic alliance while respecting clients' faith perspectives.
- Experience working with diverse populations and the ability to navigate culturally sensitive conversations.
- Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach to addiction treatment.
Preferred:
- Certification or specialized training in addiction counseling or Islamic counseling.
- Proficiency in multiple languages, especially languages spoken in the local community.
- Previous experience working as an addiction counselor within an Islamic or faith-based context.
