What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator position at S & H Machine Inc?
We are seeking a Operator at any level of experience, from entry-level to experienced in our Burbank and South El Monte location.
Summary
A CNC Operator is responsible for the operation of either the CNC Lathe or CNC Mill. The CNC Operator must have a basic understanding of CNC G and M Codes and understand the terminology of the machining process, which pertain to the equipment being run. The CNC Operator must have working knowledge on the uses of inspection equipment, hand tools such as calipers, micrometers, and depth gage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and that additional tasks may be assigned to the employee and the scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands.
- Understand and demonstrate Lean Principles; work to create an environment of continuous improvement and efficient productivity.
- Change cutting tools and inserts as necessary and under supervision.
- Ability to “OFFSET” machine correct distance and direction.
- Maintain “In Process” inspection throughout production run.
- Power Up and Zero Return all machine axis.
- Understand – Cycle Start, Feed Hold, and all Override keys or knobs.
- Ensure maximum, consistent coolant flow to all tools.
- Manage consistent chip evacuation. Do not let chips build up.
- Display basic awareness: Look, Listen, Feel.
- Comprehension of cutting tool list as it pertains to the job being run.
- Simple blueprint and tolerance comprehension.
- Understanding of basics of CNC machine operation.
- Know the difference of a Lathe and Mill.
- Ability to keep the machine running effectively with some supervision.
- Knowing when to use “Emergency Stop”.
- Must have a complete understanding of Safe Machine operation best practices.
In addition, an experienced Operator Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ability to replace any tool, Mill/Lathe, and gain correct offset for replacement.
- Standard knowledge of work holding; Chucks, Collets, Vises, and Fixtures.
- Basic program editing of feeds and speeds, etc. (with notification)
- Full working knowledge and use of all available shop inspection equipment.
- Basic knowledge of advanced axis movement.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic problems.
- Display working knowledge of differences between control types.
- Ability to hand re-sharpen some cutting tools.
- Complete understanding of tolerances and tool wear, and how they are related.
- Keep multiple machines up and running.
- Ability to make off-sets.
