Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for completing patient registration duties including but not limited to collecting and validating accurate patient demographic and insurance information, obtaining pre-certification or authorization as required, and entering all necessary information into EMR system. The MA is also responsible for assisting providers with vitals, performing basic labs, and other standard patient care activities including scheduling patients for follow up appointments, updating patient files in addition to completing specific clinical duties, like coordinating the lab to taking blood samples. This position requires multi-tasking and effective problem solving skills. It is expected that the Medical Assistant will foster positive relationships with all patients in an effort to provide quality service supporting staff in daily operations as evidence by assisting with the daily management of office operations which include answering phones, screening & triaging patients, scheduling patients, record management, workplace safety, billing, maintaining updated access to care database for processing referrals and new admission.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required, bachelor degree preferred
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certified Medical Office Assistant (MOA) OR Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) OR equivalent experience and education.
- BLS: Certification in First Aid, CPR, Universal Precaution, NCI/EBPI/CPI
- 1-2 Years of medical assistant experience preferred
- Patient Maintenance (scheduling, registration and financial clearance), insurance verification, billing or certified medical assistant experience preferred.
- Experience managing projects; conduct research; and disseminate information by using the telephone, mail services, Web sites, and email.
- Experience operating a variety of office equipment, including fax machines, photocopiers, scanners, videoconferencing and multiline telephone systems.
- Experience creating spreadsheets, composing correspondence, managing databases, and developing presentations, writing reports, using desktop publishing Microsoft office software and digital graphics.
- Experience negotiating with vendors, purchasing supplies, manage areas such as stockrooms or corporate libraries, and retrieve data from various sources.
