Department: Machine Shop & Fabrication
Pay: Hourly, DOE
We are seeking a motivated CNC Operator I to join our Machine Shop team! This entry-level position focuses on safely operating CNC Mills and Lathes, performing basic setups, following established work instructions, and supporting higher-level machinists in day-to-day shop operations. Candidates will have the opportunity to learn CNC machining practices, quality standards, and the fundamentals of CAD/CAM workflow used within our manufacturing process.
Our Machine Shop currently utilizes HAAS CNC Mills, a HAAS Mini-Mill, and a HAAS CNC Lathe. S&S Precision uses PTC Creo for CAD/CAM programming (training provided where applicable).

Hours: Monday- Thursday, 7:00am- 4:15pm & Friday 7:00am - 12:00pm (Overtime Available)

Responsibilities:
- Operates CNC Mills and CNC Lathes safely and in accordance with setup sheets and work instructions.
- Performs basic machine setup tasks, including loading tools, setting workpieces, verifying programs, and completing first-article checks under supervision.
- Monitors machine operation, identifies basic issues, and communicates concerns to the Machine Supervisor or Engineering.
- Uses precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) to verify part quality within required tolerances.
- Follows established QC processes and reports defective materials, tooling, or equipment immediately.
- Assists machinists and engineers with shop tasks, fixturing, tool organization, and workflow support.
- Helps maintain documentation, setup sheets, and work instructions as directed.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area while complying with all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- 1–2 years of experience operating CNC machines or completion of a machining trade program (preferred but not required).
- Basic understanding of machining principles, tooling, feeds/speeds, and machine safety.
- Familiarity with reading technical drawings and using precision measuring equipment.
- Willingness to learn CAD/CAM processes; prior exposure is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and desire to grow within the machining field.
- Mathematical skills, including basic geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs safely and maneuver material with pallet jacks.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods while operating machines.
