Location: Bremerton
FSLA Status: Exempt
Shift: Days, Monday through Thursday (four ten, hour days)
Compensation: $78 to 90K per year, DOE

Why we need you and what you will be responsible for
:

With a record high backlog of boats to build, we are seeking a dedicated, passionate Mechanical Designer to help us design our incredible boats efficiently and successfully for our mission-focused customers. This position will manage our computer-aided design (CAD) systems and lead a team of drafters and designers. engineers, designs, tests, and supports the manufacturing and installation of mechanical systems and components for SAFE Boats products. Work closely with Business Development, Sales, and Operations and outside resources to ensure successful technical and financial completion of assigned engineering projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinate with production on the execution of assigned projects.
    • Analyze project technical system performance requirements and assess feasibility.
    • Propose mechanical system design solutions to meet performance requirements.
    • Design and 3D model vessel mechanical systems
    • Research mechanical components and materials for new applications
    • Coordinate and monitor in-house and outside resources to complete mechanical engineering projects.
    • Act as point of contact for outside mechanical engineering resources and technical consultants
    • Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of mechanical systems to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
    • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
    • Lead vessel projects, applying cross-functional skills in support of structural and outfit design efforts to effectively drive the delivery of high- quality products from design concept to customer delivery and in-service operation.
    • Participate in the development of proposals for assigned programs to include detailed designs, analyses, drawings, and test data.
    • Collaborate on research and development of new product and platform offerings and product enhancement initiatives related to existing product designs.
    • Provide support to the business development and sales team in preparation and delivery of quotes and technical responses in support customer requirements.
    • Develop, implement and maintain work standards and manufacturing documentation.
    • Provide technical support for equipment installation.
    • Investigate and resolve production and quality problems, conferring with the appropriate personnel as required.
    • Develop and maintain bills of materials.
    • Review technical documentation for accuracy and compliance with existing standards.
    • Perform other related activities as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to navigate and be successful operating in a dynamic smaller company environment.
  • Strong technical ability and understanding of manufacturing systems, lean manufacturing principles, material flow systems.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to creatively problem solve in a complex environment.
  • Advanced computer skills, with a focus 3D CAD, analytical tools and Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work effectively independently or on a team.
  • Ability to work effectively and achieve success under pressure and within deadlines.

Required Experience & Education:

  • 3 years relevant experience required
  • Degree or Certificate in Marine Systems Design and/or Engineering a plus
  • Experience working in and knowledge of the Marine Industry preferred
  • Experience leading projects preferred

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing,
  • Listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
  • Bend, stoop, squat and stretch to complete tasks.
  • Must be able to work at heights and/or confined spaces and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to go underway on sea trials in a variety of weather conditions.

Salary : $78,000 - $90,000
