POSITION TITLE: Teacher Consultant - Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

NUMBER OF OPENINGS: One (1) full-time position for the 2024-2025 school year.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the decision making process of the educational placement and education of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- Attend Individualized Educational Planning Team (IEPT) meetings whenever possible.
- Support local district personnel in promoting/implementing best practices for students with ASD.
- Serve as a resource person for the teacher working with a student with Autism Spectrum Disorder, within the educational setting.
- Provide trainings, using a variety of formats, to meet local district’s needs or requests.
- Facilitate, participate, and/or guide the effective behavior support team process.
- Participate on the Regional Collaborative Network (RCN) of the START project.
- Assist with implementation of Universal Supports for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, i.e. visual strategies, functional communication systems, consistent behavior programming, peer to peer support, staff support, and collaborative teaming.
- Assist the staff in obtaining special materials or equipment which will assist the successful education of the student with ASD.
- Keep local school administration informed, as to the status of caseload students within the district(s).
- Meet the needs and requests of the individual school districts in a highly flexible manner.
- Assist staff through the initial evaluation process for students who are suspected to have an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Support families through direct and indirect methods to address and understand their child’s unique needs.
- To provide reports to the supervisor when requested.
- Perform duties as assigned by the Director as deemed necessary and appropriate which are in accordance with contractual rules and legal guidelines.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Full Approval in any area of Special Education (Teacher, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, Speech and Language Pathologist)
- Master’s degree.
- Five years of experience teaching or working directly with children with ASD
- Knowledge and/or experience with students with autism spectrum disorder.
- START Trained
- Comprehensive knowledge of Evidence Based Practices and Universal Supports for ASD
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have conflict resolution skills.
- Leadership skills to work effectively with staff, school administrators, and outside agencies in the delivery of special education services.
- Ability to work successfully with staff, students, parents, the community and advocacy groups.
- Ability to function in a total organizational context.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to keep all student, parent, and staff information confidential.
- Ability to work well with others in a work team environment.
- Ability and/or willingness to learn and utilize basic keyboarding computer skills.
- Must have dependable transportation.
- Must have a good attendance record.
