What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Media Associate position at Saint Mary's College?
The Social Media Associate is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring social media strategy to enhance brand awareness and the reputation of the College. This role researches and develops new content and curates outside content for resharing on the main College accounts across multiple platforms; tracks and reports on measurable outcomes against goals; and remains actively apprised of trends and developments in social media. This position works collaboratively with the marketing team and with colleagues across the campus.
This Social Media Associate also contributes to the overall content development effort of the Marketing Department, creating content for use across communications channels, including promotional and editorial platforms.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital design, marketing, or journalism.
- Minimum of two years of professional social media experience.
- Technical knowledge of current social media platforms, distribution and tracking tools, and best practices.
- Strong familiarity with social media reporting and web analytics.
- Ability to innovate and plan strategically as part of a team, with the ability to work independently toward established goals and objectives.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Time-management skills and the ability to plan and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to develop effective and collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, media, students, alumnae, and other key constituents.
- Ability to interpret critical higher education topics to a lay audience.
- Ability to maintain continuity of message, tone, and style within established College brand standards.
- Experience developing concepts and writing copy in a variety of voices.
- Ability to skillfully handle confidential and proprietary information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Meta platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Threads).
- Demonstrated knowledge of short-form video creation for social media distribution (Reels).
- Experience with social media content management platforms (Sprout Social or Hootsuite).
- Familiarity with web design.
