Student Garden Internship, Salem Public Schools, Salem, Summer 2025
Job Description: The School Garden Student Interns will support out Farm to School mission by following the maintenance plan for the garden, and ensuring gardens are maintained and ready for students and staff to use during school hours and for after-school and summer programs. These positions are open to anyone who meets the qualifications and has a passion for gardening.
Dates: July - August (official dates are weather-dependent)
Compensation: $15.00/hour
Number of Openings: 3
Supervisor: Food & Nutrition Services Program Director
Designation: Hourly, student internship, paid
Required tasks may include:
- Follow & execute the planned garden cycle for each school. The plan for each garden is listed on the District Garden Annual Cycle
- Adding soil/compost as needed
- Seeding/re-seeding, if not done by students/staff
- Weeding/general cleanup
- Watering
- Monitoring plant health, identifying and addressing pests and diseases
- Harvesting (when not in use by students)
- Create a presentation on what has grown over the summer.
Qualifications:
- Ability to follow directions & complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to perform physical work outside.
