Job Description:

Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for all aspects of the development and administration of a successful NCAA Division III Intercollegiate Lacrosse Program. The program is conducted in accordance with all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), and Salem State University (SSU) rules, regulations, and policies.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The primary responsibility of this position is instructing student-athletes in the rules and fundamentals of the sport of Women's Lacrosse.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Director of Athletics and Head Women's Lacrosse Coach.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Head Coach with all aspects of teaching skills and strategies for the sport of women's lacrosse during practice and games in the traditional and non-traditional seasons.
  • Provide individual instruction in the sport of women's lacrosse on the field or in a classroom setting.
  • Assist the Head Coach in the creation of practice and game planning.
  • Assist the Head Coach with student-athlete welfare, physical health, team concepts and safety.
  • Assist the Head Coach in coordinating team logistics with athletic department staff and other support personnel such as managers, scorekeepers, etc.
  • Assist the Head Coach in breaking down film/video of practices, games, and opponents to be used as a teaching tool for game planning as well as lacrosse student-athlete development.
  • Assist the Head Coach with recruiting student-athletes which could include travel to games, showcases, or tournaments in the New England area.
  • Assist the Head Coach with social media, team travel, community service, and fund raising.
  • Adhere to and support all rules, conditions and regulations as set forth by Salem State University, Conference affiliations and the National Collegiate Athletic Association pertaining to all aspects of the team's management.
  • Responsible for reporting to the Equal Opportunity Officer or Title IX Coordinator knowledge or receipt of reports of discrimination, discriminatory harassment, and retaliation from students or other members of the university community.
  • Accountable for ensuring that affirmative action, equal opportunity, and diversity are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • One to two years of lacrosse coaching and/or playing experience at the club, high school, or college level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences (i.e., students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration and community).
  • Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

College coaching and/or playing experience.

Additional Information:

This is a part-time non-benefited, contract position.
