Position summary: The Licensed Practical Nurse rooms and takes vitals on patients as well as assists with various patient care duties and procedures while working closely with the providers of the clinic. The Licensed Practical Nurse also communicates provider orders and care instructions.
General purpose: Assist the physician, nurse practitioner or other clinician with pain clinic services. Various other clinic duties.
Role qualifications:
Education
Completion of an accredited LIcensed Practical Nurse Program or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Nursing experience in a clinic setting is preferred but not required.
Licenses/Certificate
- Must maintain current BLS.
- Must attend in services and staff meetings.
Position responsibilities:
- Assist the Physician and/or Nurse Practitioner with patient procedures.
- Greet and assist patients to exam room, obtain and record vitals with pain specific assessment.
- Document accurate medication reconciliation at each visit.
- Assist provider with prescription preparation and prior authorization.
- Perform designated lab work and maintain an adequate level of lab supplies.
- Ability to present patient educational material in understandable format.
- Assist in capturing all charges that may occur during a patient visit including lab, injections, and all office procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of medical supplies. Rooms are to be checked daily for adequate supplies.
- Be liaison between patient and Physician and/or Nurse Practitioner.
- Keep log sheets of drug samples on the premises, monitoring the date received, date of distribution, patient name, number given, lot number, and expiration date along with initials of person sampling.
- Assist in reviewing stocked medications and sample medications for outdates on a monthly basis.
- Keep abreast of changes and requirements of insurance companies to aid in the completion of referrals and prior authorizations.
- Maintain a good public image of the Clinic when dealing with patients and visitors.
Essential skills and experience:
- Must have the ability to type and use appropriate office equipment.
- Must be able to use a computer for scheduling, retrieving of patient information and documenting in chart.
- Must have knowledge and ability to perform nursing duties and operate medical and laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of billing procedures is required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as physician orders, medical charts, lab reports, and information from insurance companies.
- Ability to speak effectively to individuals with clear verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with a variety of individuals such as patients, staff, visitors, and other healthcare professionals.
- Must be able to collect data and establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- The employee is frequently required to be on their feet for hours at a time.
- The employee must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift frequently.
