Job Summary
The Water Production Operator II is responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of the county's water production system and filter water treatment plant. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of water treatment processes, state and federal regulations, and the ability to manage complex operations on a 24/7 basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees daily operations of the water treatment plant, including monitoring equipment, adjusting chemical processes, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on plant equipment, wells, and storage tanks.
- Conducts water quality testing and analysis, interpreting results, and implementing necessary corrective actions.
- Responds to system alarms and emergencies, taking appropriate measures to resolve issues.
- Maintains accurate and detailed records of plant operations, maintenance, and water quality data.
- Purchases supplies, chemicals, and equipment as needed.
- Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal water quality and safety regulations.
- Provides technical expertise and support to the Water Superintendent.
- Participates in the development of long-term water production plans and capacity needs.
- Responds to customer inquiries and concerns regarding water quality and service.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 5 years of experience in water distribution and water production operations.
- Possession of Level B certification for well operations and water distribution system operations.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license.
- Strong knowledge of water treatment principles, practices, and regulations.
- Ability to operate and maintain water treatment equipment.
- Proficiency in data analysis and recordkeeping.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform tasks requiring lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Working Conditions
This position involves work in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards associated with water treatment facilities. The position requires flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuous water production.
