The Position:
San Diego Miramar College invites all qualified candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Professor of Mathematics. Assignment hours are 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays.

Major Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor of Mathematics reports to the Miramar College Dean of the School of Mathematics, Biological, Exercise, and Physical Sciences. The Assistant Professor is expected to perform the following duties:
  • Teach all level of mathematics courses to the standards of the department and college.
  • Participate in mathematics department meetings and committees as needed.
  • Assist with curriculum revision and course/program assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with all faculty and staff.
  • Maintain course office hours and office hours for student advisement.
  • Participate in various college and/or district committees which promote participatory governance.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of a community college instructor in accordance with district guidelines and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.



Qualifications:
Masters in mathematics or applied mathematics
OR
Bachelors in either of the above AND Masters in statistics, physics or mathematics education
OR
the equivalent

Desired Qualifications:
A successful candidate will,
  • Demonstrated mastery of mathematical subject matter.
  • Demonstrated experience, ability, and interest in teaching mathematics courses ranging from basic arithmetic through calculus and differential equations and including statistics.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement to enhance mastery of the theory and applications of mathematics and pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated competency in a variety of instructional formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate innovative technologies and relevant strategies for students success in the class.
  • Demonstrated teaching mathematics using innovative student-centered and equity-minded practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mathematics curriculum currently offered at a community college as it relates to the mission of the college and the responsibilities of its faculty in realizing this mission.
  • Demonstrated experience with participatory governance, committee, and/or department work especially in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.






Licenses:

Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A - Class 6, Step C ($6,032.90 - $8,128.98) per month based on the current AFT - College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Monthly Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
